Intention
Founded by the pianist Peter Froundjian in 1987, this piano festival is related in spirit to the legendary twelve orchestra concerts by Ferruccio Busoni in Berlin (1902-1909) as well as the "Society for Forgotten Music", founded by Vladimir Dukelsky (alias Vernon Duke) in Paris in 1947. The following quotation from Dukelsky, which is still pertinent a half a century later, names some of the factors that make the “Piano Festival Husum” one of the most important festivals in the course of the year:
"Why is great music often forgotten? ?Not because it is unworthy of a future, but because of the circumstances in which it was launched. It is tragic that a number of worthy compositions are plunged into oblivion following their premieres. Among factors contributing to their early devise are:?Imperfect performance, biased criticism, or audience indifference."
